# Examples: OpenRun 42 "Wide" | File | What it is | | --- | --- | | `OpenRun42-Wide.shoelast` | A Shoelast Designer project with two variants. The active variant **Wide** carries three applied edits; **Original** is the unedited last. It includes the edit history and both variants' exact shapes. | | `OpenRun42-Wide.stl` | Binary STL of the **Wide** variant in millimetres. Its header reads `Shoelast Designer STL units=mm OpenRun 42 by Open Footwear CC BY-SA 4.0 modified`. | ## How they were made They were generated by the `RealLastExample` test through the same edit path the app uses, `EditPipeline`, with manual commands: ``` SHOELAST_WRITE_EXAMPLES=$PWD/Examples swift test --package-path Packages/LastKit --filter RealLastExample ``` 1. Load the bundled **OpenRun Running Last, EU 42** template (left last) through `TemplateLibrary.load`, which applies the disclosed template preprocessing: the file's folded micro-flaps are retriangulated by edge flips, without moving any vertex (`docs/CONVENTIONS.md` §6.2). 2. Create the variant **Wide** and duplicate it as **Original**. Original stays at revision 0 with no edits. 3. Commit three separate edits to Wide. Each edit increments the revision and writes an `OperationRecord`, and must pass strict commit validation, as Apply requires. The heel is preserved throughout, and its core is verified bit-identical. | Revision | Edit | Primary measurement | | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | Forefoot Width +4.0 mm | ball width 104.09 → 108.09 mm | | 2 | Toe Spring +2.0 mm | toe spring 8.68 → 10.68 mm | | 3 | Instep Fullness +2.0 mm | instep height 74.54 → 76.54 mm (a vertical lift: the height changes by the amount; see `docs/CONVENTIONS.md` §4) | 4. Write both files, then read them back and verify them: - the project reopens equal to what was saved, with bit-exact shapes; - the STL re-welds to the same 116,744 triangles and 58,374 vertices, with a largest vertex deviation of 8.1e-6 mm against the design (the export tolerance is 0.05 mm); - the Wide shape and the STL as read back both pass strict validation. Identifiers and dates are fixed, so rerunning the command reproduces both files byte for byte. ## Measurements (mm) | Measurement | Original | Wide | Change | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | | Length | 279.93 | 279.93 | +0.00 | | Ball Width | 104.09 | 108.09 | +4.00 | | Heel Width | 68.66 | 68.66 | +0.00 | | Toe Height | 32.82 | 32.82 | +0.00 | | Instep Height | 74.54 | 76.54 | +2.00 | | Toe Spring | 8.68 | 10.68 | +2.00 | | Heel Elevation | 12.94 | 12.94 | +0.00 | | Ball Section Perimeter | 258.19 | 266.01 | +7.82 | | Instep Section Perimeter | 258.38 | 263.68 | +5.29 | | Waist Section Perimeter | 266.90 | 270.46 | +3.56 | **Bounding dimensions (L × W × H):** original 279.93 × 105.41 × 102.14 mm; Wide 279.93 × 109.46 × 101.97 mm. The STL reads back at 279.928 × 109.463 × 101.972 mm. - The height drops slightly because toe spring lifts the forefoot plantar bump, which is the original lowest point. Edits do not re-ground the last. - Section perimeters are not girths. ## Validation status - **Strictly valid.** All three steps pass the app's commit validation, and the final shape is a closed, manifold, consistently and outwardly oriented surface with no degenerate triangles and **no self-intersection at all**. There is no source baseline to exclude: the template preprocessing removed the original file's 16 touching pairs together with its folded flaps. - The STL, read back and welded, passes the same strict validation. - The STL was written by the test harness, which performs the same write, read-back and 0.05 mm comparison as the app's export, but not through the app itself. How a slicer treats the file has not been tested. Inspect the sliced and printed result as with any prototype. ## Provenance and licence (share-alike) Both files are **adaptations** of **"OpenRun shoe last (size 42)" by Open Footwear** (openfootwear.com): - Source: https://www.printables.com/model/491369-openrun-shoe-last-size-42 - Source file SHA-256: `3b9451c316cff378b8ba77945eebaca8b10216751df22e8327a8e8d0c0d63645` - Licence: **CC BY-SA 4.0**, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ **Changes made:** the last was re-expressed in Shoelast Designer's canonical frame (rotation and translation only); its triangulation was changed by edge flips at 593 folded micro-flaps and needle triangles (1,742 of 116,744 triangles re-split, no vertex moved, surface deviation at most 0.22 mm; see `docs/CONVENTIONS.md` §6.2); then it was edited with Forefoot Width +4 mm, Toe Spring +2 mm and Instep Fullness +2 mm, as listed above. These example files are therefore licensed under **CC BY-SA 4.0**. If you share them or anything derived from them, you must: - keep this attribution; - state your changes; - license the result under CC BY-SA 4.0. The licence does not cover the Shoelast Designer source code. These are **prototype lasts**, not approved or certified lasts. Check fit and dimensions physically, ideally with a last maker, before making shoes on them.
